Why You Should Visit

A community marche started in 2022 to bring new life to the Yagyu district in eastern Nara City, now in its 10th edition. At the former Yagyu Junior High School, a closed school, stalls sell fresh local vegetables, regional specialities and handmade goods, along with freshly pounded yomogi mochi made from local glutinous rice and mugwort. The play booths offer bamboo-craft, resin and woodwork workshops, body painting and water-balloon fishing, while the stage features hula and dance from the Yagyu district culture festival, kids' cheerleading and Nara kamishibai picture-story shows. To mark the 10th edition, every visitor gets a turn at a prize-draw lottery, and the usual mochi-pounding experience returns. Entry is free, making it an easy half-day out for families.
