Why You Should Visit

A two-day tea festival at Tawara Yamazato Market, a farm stand in Nara City's Tawara district, where Yamato tea is grown. Both days bring tea tastings poured by local growers, a talk by tea farmers, and sweets, food and tableware paired with Yamato green tea, hojicha and Japanese black tea. A mobile two-tatami tea room, Wakatake-an, serves matcha with a sweet. On the 14th you can try making pan-roasted tea; on the 15th there is Tawara taiko drumming and a tea-guessing game called tocha. Good for tea lovers and families.
