Why You Should Visit

For just ten days during the autumn foliage season, Tsubosakadera, a mountainside temple in Takatori, Nara, opens its grounds after dark. Japanese umbrella installations and bamboo lanterns are set out across the precincts, lighting up the red maples. It is part of "Yamato Kannon Momiji Kairo 2026," a joint autumn program with Hasedera, Okadera and Murouji, in which Tsubosakadera, Okadera and Murouji hold evening light-ups. A good fit for anyone who wants to see the temple in a different mood from daytime or photograph autumn leaves at night.
