Why You Should Visit

The autumn grand festival of Takasago Shrine, counted among the three great festivals of Banshu. Over two days — the eve on Oct 10 and the main day on Oct 11 — decorated yatai floats parade through Takasago's old merchant town, and the highlight comes on the main afternoon when floats clash in front of the shrine's tower gate. Every three years, the eve also features the Funatogyo rite (a city-designated cultural property), in which the mikoshi is carried onto a sacred boat and taken to the harbor; it was last held in 2025.
