Why You Should Visit

A first-time gyoza festival at Takarazuka-kita Service Area on the Shin-Meishin Expressway. Seven gyoza shops from Aichi, Tochigi, Shizuoka, Fukuoka, Kyoto and Yamaguchi set up side by side, so you can compare freshly grilled dumplings: round mochi-style gyoza from Toyohashi, a three-generation Utsunomiya specialist, scallop-and-butter gyoza from Hamamatsu, and Shimonoseki pufferfish gyoza topped with blanched fugu skin. Every stall also sells frozen gyoza to take home. The service area serves both directions and can be entered from local roads via the Welcome Gate, making it an easy stop on a long-weekend drive.
