Why You Should Visit

Himeji Shokuhaku is the Himeji Food Culture Association's yearly autumn food festival, run under the motto "Harima is where the food is." For three days, Otemae Park just south of Himeji Castle fills with local specialties from Harima and the rest of Hyogo. In 2026 around 50 stalls take part, serving dishes such as Aioi horumon yaki udon, Kakogawa katsumeshi, Himeji Station's famous ekisoba, grilled Aboshi oysters, Tatsuriki sake and local craft beer. Entry is free and the event runs rain or shine, with stage shows plus kids' bikes and a bouncy balloon for children. A good stop if you want to sample the region's food in one place while visiting the castle.
