Why You Should Visit

A free five-day festival that gathers Himeji's confectioners at the foot of Himeji Castle. In Otemae Park there are live-made sweets for sale, a limited-quantity "item of the day", and original sweets themed on the Silver Carriage Road. Across the street at Egret Himeji, wagashi and Western-style pastry chefs show elaborate sugar-craft pieces, demonstrate how delicate jo-namagashi are shaped, and there is a children's art exhibition, plus wagashi classes and other hands-on sessions during the run. The Himeji National Pottery Fair takes place in the same park on the same dates, so you can browse tableware and sweets in one visit.
