Why You Should Visit

For two days only, Akita's Yokote Snow Festival comes to the grounds beside Himeji Castle. Kamakura snow huts, a roughly 450-year-old tradition, are brought all the way from Yokote — you can view and photograph them with the castle behind, and on Saturday, Nov 28 you can even step inside. There is also a snow slide for sledding, an artificial snowfall zone, and a namahage procession with photo sessions, plus Akita comfort food such as Yokote yakisoba and kiritanpo. A rare chance for families in the Kansai region to play in real snow.
