Why You Should Visit
A special exhibition built around The Water Margin, one of China's four great classic novels, spanning Chinese art from the Northern Song to the Qing and Japanese art from Edo to today. The centerpiece is the complete showing of all 74 prints from Utagawa Kuniyoshi's breakthrough hero series, joined by the Important Cultural Property scroll Along the River During Qingming by Zhao Zhe, a Ru-ware narcissus basin and Hokusai's illustrated Suikoden. You don't need to know the story — the sheer visual force of the outlaw heroes carries it.
