Why You Should Visit

A day-long autumn festival on the banks of Sayamaike, Japan's oldest dam-type reservoir. By day, teams pass the sash around a flat 1 km loop in a relay marathon (costumes welcome); at dusk, LED sky lanterns — no flame involved — rise together over the pond. Bouncy castles, a grown-ups' fair with shooting galleries and ring toss, and food trucks fill the park, and admission is free. An easy place for families to spend the whole day into the evening.
