Road closures are in place around the venues, and the organizer asks visitors to come by public transport.

Why You Should Visit

Sakai's biggest autumn festival, held since 1974. Oshoji-suji, the avenue linking Sakaihigashi and Sakai stations, goes car-free for matchlock gun demonstrations, futon-daiko drum float contests, a Nanban market and food stalls, and stages. The Sakai Grand Tea Ceremony, honoring hometown tea master Sen no Rikyu, is held at Nanshuji temple and Sakai Risho no Mori, and an eve festival takes place at Mina Sakai by City Hall on the 17th. A good fit for spending a day on foot in this historic city.

Tea ceremony tickets

Nanshuji (17 Oct): advance ¥2,200 for two seats, same-day ¥1,200 per seat (with sweets). On sale from 1 Sep while stocks last; see the convention bureau notice
