Why You Should Visit

A once-a-year harvest festival in Mukugawa, a small mountain village in Imazu, Takashima. On this one day the usually quiet village fills with stalls set up at the eaves of farmhouses, where residents sell their own home cooking and handmade crafts. You stroll from stall to stall through the autumn countryside, chatting with locals as you eat and shop. "Okkin" means "thank you" in the local dialect, and 2026 is the 23rd edition. A good day out for anyone curious about rural life in the hills above Lake Biwa.
