Venue & access: Nariaiji Temple, Miyazu No private cars to the temple after 16:00. Park free at the Tango Kairiku Kotsu cable car car park (16:30–21:30) or Motoise Kono Shrine (17:00–21:30), then take the cable car and shuttle bus up. On 14 Nov a free night boat runs between Miyazu Pier and Ichinomiya Pier.

Why You Should Visit

For two nights only, Nariaiji, the 28th temple of the Saigoku Kannon pilgrimage set high on the mountain above Amanohashidate, lights up its autumn leaves after dark. Along with the maples, the temple's "Bottomless Pond" is illuminated. Private cars cannot drive up in the evening, so visitors ride the cable car and a shuttle bus from the foot of the mountain, both covered by the admission fee. Children of junior-high age and under get in free, making it an easy evening plan for anyone staying around Amanohashidate.

No, cars are not allowed after 16:00. Use the free temporary car parks at the foot of the mountain, then the cable car and shuttle bus.
