Why You Should Visit

A monthly language exchange hosted by KOBE Brighten. Locals, international residents and travelers meet over a drink at Food Bar ENDS, a short walk from Sannomiya Station. It's standing-style and casual: drop in any time between 7 and 9 pm and leave whenever you like. There's no program and no speeches, and the conversation runs mostly in English and Japanese. If you come on your own, the host will introduce you to people. The host spent five years living in Australia and a year in Sri Lanka, and has traveled around Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines, so wherever you're from, you'll find someone curious about your country. A good fit if you live in Kobe and want to practice your Japanese.

FAQ

Do I need to book? Could it be cancelled?
You can walk in without booking. But sign-ups decide whether it goes ahead: if too few people sign up, it's cancelled at noon two days before. If you plan to come, signing up helps make it happen.
Can I come alone?
Yes. The host will introduce you to other people.
I'm thinking about a working holiday. Is this for me?
Yes. The host lived in Australia for five years and can tell you about daily life and work there.
Do I need to speak English?
Yes. Japanese is spoken too, and if you get stuck, the host can step in and interpret.
