Get off at Kameoka Station on the JR Sagano Line (about 20 min from Kyoto Station). By car, about 50 min from central Kyoto (Horikawa-Gojo); parking is shown on the official castle-town festival map.

The 11 floats

Kuwayama, Hachimanyama, Takeuchiyama, Miwayama, Takasagoyama, Ebisuyama, Nanbayama, Inariyama, Urashimayama, Hagoromoyama, Okinayama

Main festival highlights

• All eight hikiyama floats are pulled on their original carriages
• Around 11:00 the floats gather at Hatagocho for the kuji-aratame lot inspection, performed by the mayor
• Afterwards each float returns to its own neighbourhood

Yoimiya and the Andon Path

• Oct 20–24: handmade andon lanterns set out in each float neighbourhood as the Kameoka Andon-no-Michi
• On the Yoimiya (24th), lanterns light up from dusk, with ikebana displays, sacred sake offered to visitors and other events

Related rites (Kuwayama Shrine and elsewhere)

• Oct 20: Shinkosai and display of floats at the neighbourhood halls
• Oct 25: after the procession, Kankosai and the portable shrine's return to the mountain
