Why You Should Visit

On Halloween day itself, the small "shopping park" on Yao Family Road shopping street hosts a festival where the costumes are Japanese yokai rather than Western monsters. Around 50 yokai performers gather from all over Japan, and you can meet them and take photos together. There is kids' dance, a make-up corner and other activities, plus food from local restaurants. Children of elementary-school age or younger who come in costume receive sweets, and entry is free. A relaxed neighborhood Halloween for families exploring Yao, a short walk from Kintetsu-Yao Station.
