Why You Should Visit

For two days the Kakogawa riverbed turns into a giant grill. Kakogawa is one of Japan's meat-industry hubs, and this festival — 95,000 visitors over its first three editions — puts that butchers' craft on display. On Sep 5, 2,000 free servings of Kakogawa Wagyu are handed out; on Sep 4, 400 free bowls of udon made by Marugame Seimen (founded in Kakogawa) with local Shikata beef. Meat booths and food trucks line the field, admission is free, and a night dog run for small dogs opens each evening.
