- Kobe Prison (Akashi) From JR Nishi-Akashi Station, take a bus bound for Kakogawa to Morita, then walk about 3 min (about 25 min on foot from JR Nishi-Akashi or Okubo Station). By car, about 10 min south of Okubo IC on the Daini-Shinmei Road (parking is limited)
Why You Should Visit
An annual correctional exhibition held at Kobe Prison in Akashi; 2026 marks the 46th edition. Goods made by inmates at Kobe Prison and other correctional facilities in the Kinki region, such as men's leather shoes, furniture and leather items, are displayed and sold, and parts of the prison normally closed to the public are specially opened. There is also a stage programme including a talk by weather forecaster Daisuke Horai and performances by local school bands, fire, police and Self-Defense Forces vehicle displays, food trucks, and a rescue dog and cat adoption event. Admission is free. Suited to anyone curious about prison work and rehabilitation, and to families.
