Why You Should Visit
The autumn harvest festival of Hiraoka Shrine, the ichinomiya of old Kawachi, right outside Kintetsu Hiraoka Station. On 10 and 11 October more than twenty futon-daiko floats, large and small, are carried into the shrine from the parish districts, and the approach at the foot of Mt Ikoma fills with the bearers' chants. After dark comes the highlight, nakagaki, when lantern-lit floats are carried back and forth along the approach. Day two adds a mikoshi procession and the shinko-sai rite. Food stalls line the grounds, so you can graze between floats.
