Why You Should Visit

An autumn chrysanthemum show at Sugimura Park in Hashimoto, Wakayama, where blooms raised by the Hashimoto Citizens' Chrysanthemum Society are displayed among colourful Japanese paper umbrellas (wagasa). It runs for about three and a half weeks, from October 23 to November 15. The umbrellas frame the flowers in a way that draws plenty of photographers, and every evening from 18:00 to 21:00 the lawn is lit up, giving the chrysanthemums and umbrellas a different look after dark. A photo contest runs alongside the show.

Every day of the show, 18:00–21:00; lights go off at 21:00
Enter via Parking Lot 2 only. Other parking lots and pedestrian entrances are dark at night with ditches and drop-offs, so they cannot be used
Some lights are solar-powered and may not come on during cloudy or rainy weather; a torch is handy

Food and crafts

Up to 6 craft and food stalls (10:00–16:00). Vendors to be confirmed in mid-October

Where do I enter for the evening light-up?

Only via Parking Lot 2. The other entrances are dark at night with ditches and drop-offs.
