Venue & access: ORANGE TERRACE KYOTO (Hotel Elcient Kyoto Hachijoguchi, 1F) About 2 min on foot from the Hachijo east exit of Kyoto Station (JR / Kintetsu). By car, about 15 min from the Kyoto-minami IC on the Meishin Expressway; use the hotel parking.

Why You Should Visit

A craft beer fair running from August to the end of September at a terrace restaurant two minutes from Kyoto Station's Hachijo east exit. Three house beers are on: TERRACE PALE ALE, rich with four malts and a pleasant bitterness; TERRACE IPA, complex with four hops but light on the finish; and TERRACE GRISETTE, with sweet berry aromas, lime freshness and a spicy note. Prices run from 990 yen for one to 2,400 yen for all three, and every set comes with a glass of Premium Malt's and a chef's-choice tapas. Extra daily tapas are 220 yen each, and the terrace opens whenever the temperature is 30°C or below.

Do I need a reservation?

Both online and phone booking (075-682-7800) are available. It runs within normal restaurant service so walk-ins are possible, but book if you want to be sure of a table.

Can I sit on the terrace?

The terrace opens when the temperature is 30°C or below, so it often stays closed on midsummer afternoons. Aim for September or after sundown at dinner if the terrace is the point.

How much is the three-beer flight?

2,400 yen for all three. One is 990 yen and two are 1,800 yen, so the per-glass price drops the more you order — and you still get a free glass of Premium Malt's and a tapas.
