Why You Should Visit
To mark Railway Day, the Kyoto Railway Museum stays open in the evening from 17:00 to 19:00 on two days only. Admission after 17:00 is about half the usual price, and the main building's ground floor is dimmed for a different mood from daytime. After dark, a steam locomotive is turned on the turntable in front of the roundhouse, and there are special runs on the railway diorama plus driving simulator sessions. A good fit for adults who want a quieter look without the daytime crowds, or families planning a short early-evening visit.
