Why You Should Visit

Timed to Japan's Week of Persons with Disabilities, six cultural institutions in Kyoto's Okazaki district team up for an 11-day program. This year's theme is "touch": talks on how the sense of touch works, a workshop where you look at, feel and make animal textures, a parent-and-child theatre session using Ontenna (a device that turns sound into vibration), a braille workshop and more — 14 programs in all. Everything is free, though some sessions require advance booking. Now in its seventh year, the project is designed for people with and without disabilities to take part together. A good add-on to a day of museum-hopping in Okazaki, or a hands-on outing with kids.
