Banshu Kabuki at Saifukuji Temple 2026

Why You Should Visit

A morning at Saifukuji Temple in Higashi-Takamuro, Kasai, the place regarded as the birthplace of Banshu Kabuki. A memorial service and a Buddhist talk come first, then students of Harima Agricultural High School's local heritage club perform the Yoshinoyama scene from Yoshitsune Senbon Zakura. The Taka Town Banshu Kabuki Club is introduced and old Takamuro play scripts are on show in the main hall. Stalls in the grounds sell vegetarian curry, ramen and coffee. Entry is a 300 yen contribution. For anyone who wants to see a living rural kabuki tradition up close.
