Why You Should Visit

One of the Banshu autumn festivals, held every 17 and 18 October, with two danjiri and eighteen yatai floats of various sizes. Its signature is the haiden-neri, in which floats are hoisted high inside the raised worship hall: lifting them in a roofed, confined space also brings the spectators close. The other draw is the lion dance performed on ladders, two great bamboo poles with no rungs between them, so well known that locals say Aga means ladders. Watching is free.
