Why You Should Visit

For 18 days, the water basin at Umekita Park — a few minutes north of Osaka Station — disappears under a blanket of mist. Around 500,000 people came last summer. By day the fog and ambient sound take the edge off the heat; after 18:00 lights hit the mist and the surface of the water seems to glow. The signature shot is standing knee-deep in the cloud sea. VIE's neuroscience-based "neuro music" plays across the site, making this spot in the middle of Umeda surprisingly quiet. Worth a ten-minute stop between shopping and dinner.

FAQ

Is there an admission fee?
No — it's an outdoor installation in a public park, free to watch and no reservation needed. You only pay if you buy a drink from the robot.
Is it better by day or at night?
Come by day to cool off, after 18:00 for photos. At night the lit mist makes the water look like it's glowing — a very different scene.
Is it OK to bring kids?
It's a wide lawn park, so it works well with children. Mist can leave the ground damp — non-slip shoes and a change of clothes are a good idea.
