Why You Should Visit

Every month on the 10th, Nishinomiya Shrine hands out 'tookashi', a lucky wagashi sweet that changes month by month, to worshippers at its 10th-day service. Each month's sweet is made by a different one of eleven local confectioners, and for one day only, all of them gather in front of the shrine's Hall of Worship. Sets cost 800 yen; last year everything sold out within 45 minutes of opening. Usually you can only meet one tookashi a month, so this is the chance to collect them together. Ideal for lovers of Japanese sweets and anyone curious about Nishinomiya's wagashi makers.
