Free entry. Purchases are cash only; some activities cost extra (pork bun class ¥400, flower arranging ¥500). No advance booking. The tuna-cutting show, flower arranging and pork bun class need same-day numbered tickets handed out on site (first come, first served).

Kobe Central Wholesale Market, Tobu (Eastern) Market About a 15-minute walk south from Hanshin Fukae Station. Or take Kobe City Bus route 30 (bound for Fukaehama-cho) from JR Konan-Yamate, JR Settsu-Motoyama or Hanshin Fukae Station to the Tobu Shijo-mae stop.

Why You Should Visit

An annual market festival held each November at the Kobe Central Wholesale Market's Tobu (Eastern) Market on Fukaehama. The wholesale floors, normally for trade buyers, sell vegetables, fruit, fish and flowers at special prices, with a tuna-cutting show, a mock produce auction and a fish pool. In the Related Business Building on the south side there is a pork bun-making class, a quiz rally and live jazz, making it a good morning out for families who want to see a working market and shop for the year-end.

  • Event Area: the Wholesale Building on the north side and the Administration Building to the northeast
  • Shopping Day: intermediate wholesalers' shops (seafood and produce) on the north side open to the public
  • Yokocho Festival Area: the Related Business Building on the south side, which the public can also visit on regular days
Open throughout (9:30–12:30, while stocks last)
  • Fish pool: buy live fish and have them filleted on the spot
  • Discount sales of year-end goods (frozen and dried seafood), vegetables and fruit, cut flowers and floral goods
  • Produce lottery (¥200 per try) and produce-region fair
  • Food stalls (oden, Jokamachi Dog, etc.)
  • Bicycle safety corner by Higashinada Police (pedestrian simulator)
  • Quiz rally and guess-the-mandarin-weight game (¥300 per try)
  • Special bento boxes from Olive Kitchen and Fusa Sushi
Regular schedule
  • Shopping Day and the Yokocho Festival are normally held on the fourth Saturday of odd-numbered months; in November they expand into the Tobu Market Festa

There is free parking inside the market, but spaces are limited and the organizer recommends public transport. Do not use nearby shops' parking lots or park on the street.

Yes, it goes ahead in rain. If canceled for a typhoon or storm, notice is posted on the Tobu Market website. The jazz performance may be canceled in rain.
Are there activities for children?
Yes: the tuna-cutting show, mock auction, fish pool and quiz rally are all open to families.
