Taijiura Kujira Matsuri (Taiji Whale Festival) 2026

Why You Should Visit

Held every year on the first Sunday of November in Taiji, Wakayama Prefecture, this festival gives thanks for more than 400 years of whaling history and the bounty of whales. At Taiji Fishing Port's Fureai Hiroba square there are local folk performances and dances, plus stalls selling products from towns and villages across the region and a food bazaar. Admission is free — a good chance to see the traditional performing arts of this whaling town up close.
