B-Side Kobe: Backstreets of Shinkaichi 2026

Why You Should Visit

A walking tour of 13 offbeat shops and two cinemas around Shinkaichi, Minatogawa and Hirano, guided by a map-printed flyer. Shops range from a kissaten and a pickle-and-miso store to a Western-style diner, a Western confectioner, a craft-beer specialist, a coffee-bean roaster, a movie-goods shop, a cafe bar and a sake shop, each offering discounts or limited-time displays. Talk events on the neighbourhood's deep-cut charm run during the period, and Paru Cinema and Cinema Kobe screen films that echo Shinkaichi's neon-and-nightlife theme. Flyers are handed out at participating shops from Sept 21.

Map flyers are handed out at participating shops from Sept 21. Oct 11 talk: booking form or Apple House (080-3800-5068). Oct 12 talk: flyer QR or COZYCOFFEE (10 seats by booking, standing walk-ins). The Oct 7 tasting is walk-in.

Is it free to take part?

Walking the route with the map is free. Shopping at individual stores, talk events and film screenings are separately priced.

Can I enjoy it on a rainy day?

Most participating spots are indoors — kissaten, a cafe bar, cinemas — so it works well even in the rain.
