Autumn Used Book Fair at Chion-ji (Hyakumanben)

An open-air used book fair where members of the Kyoto Used Book Research Association set up stalls across the grounds of Chion-ji Temple at Hyakumanben. 2026 marks the 50th edition. Around 200,000 books are on the tables, from paperbacks and collected works to art books and old maps. The first day opens after a memorial service held in thanks for old books. It is one of Kyoto's three big used book fairs, alongside the spring fair at Miyako Messe and the summer fair at Shimogamo Shrine, and sits close to Kyoto University and Demachiyanagi.
