Why You Should Visit

A free neighbourhood autumn festival at the Wakayama City Sports Ground, now in its third year. It was started by local strawberry farmer Nakayama Yuta after the residents' association festival he had helped with was discontinued, so that local kids would still have a festival to look forward to. All day there's a drop-in sports day anyone can join solo (dodgeball, tug-of-war, relays, ball toss), a 300 m race championship, food stalls, food trucks and a kids' fair, and it wraps up with about ten minutes of fireworks from 18:00. A good pick for families wanting to spend a whole day out.
