Why You Should Visit

A lion dance offered during the autumn festival at Kimoto Hachimangu Shrine. A single male lion performs on a bamboo platform roughly 5 meters up, moving to flute, drum and gong, and the ritual is designated an intangible folk cultural property of Wakayama Prefecture. On the 17th evening rite, the dance is offered after the deity is moved to its temporary shrine; on the 18th morning rite, the dance continues as it's carried through the Kinomoto neighborhood.

About a 20-minute walk from Nankai Kada Line's Hachimanmae Station, or about 15 minutes on foot from the Rosai Byoin-mae bus stop, reached by bus from JR Wakayama Station or Nankai Wakayamashi Station.
