Why You Should Visit

Shimai Kannon is the last Kannon fair day of the year, held every December 18 at Kimiidera Temple in Wakayama City. Members of the temple's Kannon devotees' association serve visitors free amazake (a sweet, warm rice drink) prepared with prayers for good fortune, protection from misfortune and good health in the coming year. Serving starts at 9:00 and ends when the planned quantity runs out. A fitting way to close the year with a temple visit.
