Why You Should Visit
Katsuoji, a mountain temple above Minoh famous for its thousands of "victory" daruma dolls, opens for evening visits on weekends and public holidays throughout November. The grounds, which normally close at 17:00 (18:00 on Saturdays), stay open until 20:30, with the autumn colours lit after dark. Once the daytime crowds have gone, it is a quieter way to see the temple. Parking is reservation-only on weekends and holidays, so plan ahead: book a space if driving, or take the bus from Minoh-Kayano Station or the special Day & Night bus.
