Venue & access: South Plaza, JR Kakogawa Station Right outside the south exit of JR Kakogawa Station (special rapid trains stop here; about 30 minutes from Sannomiya). Alcohol is served, so come by train.

Why You Should Visit

On the last Friday evening of each month, the plaza outside JR Kakogawa Station becomes a 'Friday-night playground' of market stalls and music. Hand-picked sweets, food and drinks booths line the square while DJs play 80s–90s city pop, so you can drop by straight from work. The 18 September edition takes 'September, the summer festival for real' as its theme, with old-style festival street food and a karaoke contest in the mobile karaoke box 'Utakuru' (prizes for scores of 90 and above). Visitors are encouraged to come in yukata or kimono. Free to join, and since rapid trains stop at Kakogawa it is an easy train trip from Kobe.
