Why You Should Visit

An evening-to-night festival at Bokai Park on the coast of Harima Town, west of Kobe. The centerpiece is a mass Bon dance to "Harima Ondo," the town's own Bon-odori song, led by the dance group Odoryana BONBON so first-timers can join the circle. Around it are 70-plus market stalls and food trucks, a stage with dance crews, live music and Okinawan Eisa drumming, live spray-art painting, and even a tuna-cutting show from a food truck. Last year's edition, held as Harima Seaside Market, drew about 6,000 visitors. Entry is free, and the first 300 people in yukata receive a glowing scrunchie or bracelet. A relaxed pick for families and friends who want a small-town summer-night atmosphere by the sea.

FAQ

Can I join the Bon dance without any experience?

Yes. The dance group Odoryana BONBON leads from the front, so you can simply follow along. A free practice session is also held on Sun, Sept 13 at Harima Chuo Community Center if you want to learn the steps beforehand.

What happens if it rains?

It goes ahead in light rain but is cancelled in stormy weather. Updates are posted on the organizer's Instagram (@harima_tunagari).

Can I drive there?

Yes. Temporary parking is provided at Harima Minami Elementary School and Harima Minami Junior High School (about 250 cars each). The park's own lot is small, so use the designated lots. Bicycles go to the parking area at Bokai Sports Ground.
