Why You Should Visit

For two days, November 7 (Sat) and 8 (Sun), from 11:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Arashiyama's autumn festival takes to the Oi River upstream of Togetsukyo Bridge in Kyoto. Elaborately decorated boats, including imayo and Heian-style court music boats, set out from near the bridge, and traditional performing arts tied to Arashiyama are staged on the water. You can watch for free from the riverbank with the reddening hills as a backdrop. It suits anyone strolling Arashiyama at the start of the foliage season. Cancelled in rain.
