An annual morning market festival held every Culture Day (November 3) at Wakaura Fishing Port in Wakayama City, now in its 41st year. The highlight is direct sales of "Waka-shirasu", the local brand of whitebait landed in Wakaura Bay, alongside freshly caught local seafood, food stalls and a traditional mochi-throwing. Long queues form for the fresh catch, so it suits anyone who wants to pick up whitebait and fish straight from the port, or families looking for a holiday outing by the sea.
