Why You Should Visit

A winter illumination that fills Nishinomaru Garden with light, with the main keep of Osaka Castle rising behind it. Run by the same Japan Illumination Association team behind Kobe Illuminage, it is laid out as a walking route of light displays themed on Osaka's history. The lights come on after the garden's regular closing time, and this is one of the few places where you can frame the castle keep and the illuminations in a single shot. Open every day from late November to mid-February, it slots easily into an evening of sightseeing in Osaka.

Same-day tickets are sold at the ticket booth on site. Priority tickets are online only, through sites such as Asoview and Rakuten Travel. The sales start date is announced on the official site.

FAQ

Does it run in the rain?

It goes ahead rain or shine, and runs as normal in light rain. If it is cancelled for severe weather, the official site announces it on the day, so check before setting out.

Is there parking?

There is no dedicated car park, only bicycle parking. The nearest paid car park is the Ecolo Park Osaka Prefectural Office car park. Parking in the area is limited, and the organisers recommend public transport.

Can I bring a pet or a stroller?

Strollers are fine, but bring your own as none are lent out. Pets are not allowed; only assistance dogs such as guide dogs and hearing dogs can enter.

How long does it take to walk around?

The official estimate is 30 minutes to an hour. The lights stay on until 21:30, so arrive before then to see everything lit.
