Why You Should Visit

The fifth edition of a family lantern night at Ogimachi Park in Osaka, where wishes are written on lanterns and lit up against the night sky. This time the theme is Shichi-Go-San, Japan's celebration of children turning 3, 5 and 7: families put their hopes for their kids into words, and around 19:00 everyone raises their lanterns together. The lanterns use LED lights and stay tethered on strings, so the glow fills the sky without anything flying away. Entry and watching are free; lanterns are ticketed, with up to four people sharing one. From mid-afternoon there are fair games, autumn food stalls, a stage, workshops and a craft market, plus a Shichi-Go-San photo spot. A good way to mark the occasion for families with a child of that age.
