Why You Should Visit

Held every year on the November 3 national holiday, this free festival takes place at Kisaichi Maruyama Kofun Park in Ayabe, an ancient burial mound where two rulers of the middle Yura River basin were laid to rest about 1,600 years ago. The stage runs from taiko drumming and flamenco to a local hero show, a quiz about the mound, Showa-era pop songs and a high school jazz band. Children of junior high age and under can join a treasure hunt on top of the mound (first 30), and local community stalls and food trucks line the park. An easy autumn day out for families in northern Kyoto.
