Why You Should Visit

Held on 25 February, the anniversary of Sugawara no Michizane's death, this is the most important festival of the year at Domyoji Tenmangu. Plum blossoms are offered to console the deity's spirit at the Main Hall from 10:00, followed by the Inari Taisai at 14:00, while an antique market runs all day in the grounds. The plum garden behind the hall holds about 800 trees of some 80 varieties and is usually at its best around this date. During the concurrent plum season the garden is open to visitors and the treasure hall displays items associated with Michizane.
