Why You Should Visit

A day of performing arts at Kyu-Matsunakatei, a 130-year-old former inn in Teramoto, Kawachinagano, a short walk from Kanshinji Temple. The morning brings rakugo comic storytelling by Katsura Utanosuke, and the late afternoon a solo reading of Yamamoto Shugoro's "Itoguruma" by actor Hideyo Hayashi, each ticketed per show. Around midday the garden hosts mime, musical saw and a singer-songwriter set, alongside stalls selling wagashi, doughnuts, bento and vintage goods, plus workshops for clasp purses and moss terrariums. A good pick if you want to hear rakugo and spoken storytelling in an old Japanese building.
