Venue & access: Toretore Ichiba Nanki-Shirahama car park, Shirahama (Wakayama) About 5 minutes by car from JR Shirahama Station (Kisei Line). By car, exit the Hanwa Expressway at Nanki-Tanabe IC or Kamitonda IC and take Route 42 and the Shirahama Road.

Why You Should Visit

A first-time ramen festival held in the car park of Toretore Ichiba, Shirahama's big seafood market. Six popular shops from around Japan line up: Sapporo miso from Hokkaido, a Hinai chicken and clam shoyu from Akita, sea bream and scallop shio and snow crab shio from Osaka, and rich Hakata tonkotsu from Fukuoka. Bowls are served at about 70% of a normal portion, so the two-bowl set lets you compare styles side by side. A good stop on a drive or onsen trip to Shirahama, especially if you want to try regional ramen from across Japan in one place.
