Kaishu Sakaba Hikari, a small izakaya pairing the food and drink of Akashi and Hachijo Island, opened on September 22, 2026 in Nishiakashi-minamimachi, about two minutes on foot from the east exit of JR Nishi-Akashi Station. The owner grew up in Nishi-Akashi and the proprietress comes from Hachijo Island, where shima-zushi is fish marinated in soy and eaten with mustard instead of wasabi; here the fish comes from Akashi and the marinade uses Akashi soy sauce. Drinks include Hachijo shochu, five kinds of Akashi whisky from Eigashima Shuzo and an ashitaba beer. A bookshelf holds novels, manga and doujinshi edited by the proprietress. Around 11 seats, open 17:00–24:00 (last order 23:00), closed Sundays.
