Why You Should Visit

Akashi's early-summer festival — long known as 'Toki Week' — relaunches in 2026 as the 'Toki Festival.' Set in the city the Japan Standard Meridian passes through, it's a one-day celebration of Akashi as the 'town of time,' welcoming families and visitors alike. The main day on Sunday 6/7 runs 10:00–16:00 at Akashi Park, with 40+ food and exhibition booths, dance and music on stage, a 90+ vendor flea market, a kids' park, a 'working vehicles' showcase, an art exhibit, and a 'mini-museum' Kobito (gnome) treasure hunt across the park. At noon, the Ryutsu Kagaku University taiko club marks the hour with a performance. The night before (6/6 Sat) features a sky-lantern release at Akashi Castle, handheld fireworks, and a mini-ennichi food-stall corner. Commemorative meridian-crossing certificates are handed out on 6/7 and 6/10.
