Every Golden Week, the Kobe waterfront turns into Germany — and 2026 is no exception.

Kobe Oktoberfest 2026 runs from May 1 (Fri) to May 10 (Sun) at the Takahama Quay Event Space in Kobe Harborland. Now in its 11th year, the event draws around 60,000 visitors over 10 days, making it one of the biggest outdoor festivals in the Kobe Golden Week calendar.

12 German Beer Brands — Including Japan Debuts

This year sets a new record with 12 German beer brands gathered under one roof. Three highlights stand out:

Maisel & Friends Urban IPA — Japan Premiere

A craft IPA from one of Germany’s leading craft breweries makes its Japan debut. Brewed with Cascade hops for a refreshing aroma and crisp bitterness, with a clean 5.6% ABV. Unfiltered and cold-conditioned for a full, fruity character.

Erdinger Sprinlager — Spring-Limited, Japan Debut

The popular wheat beer brand Erdinger brings a seasonal spring lager to Japan for the first time. Light, easy-drinking, with a gentle malt backbone — perfectly suited to the waterfront setting.

Weihenstephaner Original Helles — Limited Quantity

From the world’s oldest brewery, founded in 1040 AD, comes a golden lager in limited supply. Nearly a thousand years of brewing tradition poured into a glass by Kobe Bay.

German Food to Match

The food stalls serve up a spread of German and crowd-pleasing dishes:

Beef Thigh Steak & Potatoes with charred garlic sauce — lean, flavourful beef, grilled to a crisp finish.

Oysters in Shell with garlic butter sauce — Hiroshima oysters steamed in their shells, finished with fragrant garlic butter.

Spare Rib Steak — a jumbo, bone-in rack glazed with a sweet-spicy sauce. Pure showstopper.

Cheese Currywurst — Berlin’s favourite street snack: grilled sausage, curry-spiced tomato sauce, and a blanket of melted cheese.

New York-Style Margherita Pizza — long-fermented dough baked with the cheese and sauce inverted for an unusually unified flavour. Goes great with beer.

German sweets and candy are also sold on-site, so the kids won’t feel left out.

Live Music Every Day

Two bands keep the festival atmosphere going daily:

  • toi, toi, toi! — Named after the German good-luck phrase (“You’ll do great!”), this ensemble leads a crowd-participation stage: drink, sing, and dance together
  • Alps Music Band — Formed in 1995, veterans of Oktoberfests and beer gardens across Japan

Additional acts — including rising bands and lip-sync performers — round out the entertainment lineup. Details on the official website and social media.
