Why You Should Visit

Ankokuji Temple in Tanto, Toyooka — famous for its autumn dodan azalea — opens to the public for two weeks in early summer, when the same great azalea turns vivid green. Framed like a painting by the main hall's doorway, the fresh foliage also reflects on the polished floor ("yuka-dodan"). Summer camellias bloom in the same period. A serene green counterpart to the celebrated autumn view, without the crowds.
