Nachi Dengaku 50th Anniversary Commemorative Performance 2026

Why You Should Visit

A special performance marking the 50th anniversary of Nachi Dengaku's designation as a national Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property. At Nachikatsuura Town Sports and Culture Hall, the 2pm show is preceded by an explanatory lecture from a Wakayama prefectural education official, followed by the dengaku performance handed down at Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine and a mochi-throwing finale. It's a one-off milestone programme, separate from the dengaku normally offered at the shrine's regular annual festival. Admission is free.

What happens before the main performance?

From 14:10 there's an explanatory lecture by a Wakayama prefectural education official, and the main performance starts at 15:00. Mochi-throwing is also planned after the show.
